A Long Stroll Through Montmartre.

Surprisingly Nicole and I have only been up and down our street for the past 5 weeks we have lived in Montmartre. The occasional walk to the grocery store or Sacre Cœur happens a couple times a week but we have never journey any farther. Sunday was a beautiful day. The sun was out shining for the first time in days. We started on our usually stroll towards the grocery store. On the way we stopped at a couple shops to buy some souvenirs. It was nearly 4 pm by the time we ended our little shopping spree and we decided to explore Montmartre. In no time we were hiking up a hill towards the top of the little town. It was so crazy seeing this side of Montmartre. Less crowded with more character. All of a sudden we see a familiar road and continue up it. In the distance music was playing and two angelic voices were heard. As we approach we realize we are in the famous Montmartre square where all the artist hang out and draw portraits of people walking by. The singing came from a couple dress in traditional french performance gear. The women looked as if she belongs in a cabaret show and the man in striped overalls with a beret on. They sang and sang in a very french way. You could tell they loved to perform together and had a love history together. We continued through the square slowly at the pace of the locals and tourist. About a 100 yards away was Sacre Cœur in the distance and so we decided to walk towards it. Nicole and I have never been in Sacre Cœur so we decided to go in. Luckily it was Sunday mass and we saw the actual priest and nuns singing. I couldn't believe that we were able to catch this experience so unexpectedly. Circling the cathedral we soaked in the atmosphere. It was calm, sacred, surreal, and weight lifting. Exiting the cathedral was sad. It was if we were leaving a sanctuary, our safe haven. Down, down, down the steps we walked. So many steps till we reached our small little fork of streets where our apartment laid. That was the end of our journey. This walk reassure me that I will come back to Paris and stay in Montmartre in the future. I can't wait to return to this place that homed me for weeks.
