Cultural Narrative 2 - The local spot

So since Michael and I have moved into our place, we've eaten at the same cafe/restaurant/bar three times now. The first time the waiter convinced us to get a happy hour beer instead of a small one, basically doubled the size of it for just one Euro more. Not too bad, but then he forgot my fries and Michael thought he was getting something like a club sandwich but it ended up as basically half a baguette with a slice of ham in between. We were pretty disappointed and ready to never come back but then we saw a plate of steak and potatoes get served to the people next to us and we immediately regretted not ordering that.

Then at the start of this week we went back and ordered the steak, covered with blue cheese. We had the same waiter and he kinda recognized us, but got our full order right this time. The Chef even came out and asked us how we wanted it cooked. It came out and it was delicious - probably one of the best meals I have had since I've been here as well as probably the cheapest. We were pretty stoked, they even gave us a bowl of chips unlike the previous time. We were definitely coming back again.

The third time we went, the waiter definitely recognized us and the same chef came out and asked us what we wanted to eat. We wanted the exact same thing, but he said he was out of blue cheese. So instead he asked us if we wanted some homemade pepper sauce. We were definitely excited and when it came out it was delicious. The chef even came back out a second time and made sure everything was good and started cracking jokes with us about how the next morning would be a little rough haha.

It's awesome to feel semi known but the people who run the restaurant, the food has definitely better and come out quicker each time we go. We also see the same 4 British men sitting out front drinking when we come in. The waiter even goes out, shakes all their hands and talks with them. Hopefully by the time we leave we'll have a similar relationship. The place isn't exotic or fancy, it's just good food served by good people and it's nice feeling like a local when we go and eat there.

  1. Good work, Tynan and good presentation too.
I am glad there's progress in 3 areas: improved eating; improved communication and more risk taking!
