Dancing by the Seine

Evening jogs down by the Seine have become one of my favorite activities. I have discovered that on the southwest banks of the Seine between Pont de Sully Bd Henri IV and Pont d’Austeritiz there is traditional dancing and sometimes improve performances every night of the week. There are about five half-circle amphitheaters where this splendor takes place. The backdrop of the prosceniums is the Seine. At night when the sun is setting, the water glistens, and the ambience is quite lovely.

Last night after dinner Rebecca and I wandered over to soak in some culture. It was different on Sunday, quiet and more romantic than usual. Upon first arriving nothing was going on. We presumed that on Sundays people must have been at home getting ready for the week to begin. I had been gushing about it to Becca so we were both disappointed to find zero activity. After about ten minutes the loveliest couple got up and began to dance. Normally there are tons of people playing their instruments in harmony to create music for the dancers, but tonight there was no such thing. The couple instead shared an ipod each taking an earbud. The woman was wearing the most wonderful purple dress with silver sequence shoes. She looked so elegant. As they floated around the stage you could feel their love for each other. They were so smooth and fluid it reminded me of Aristotle’s quote about love, “Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.” All the picnickers around began to watch.

here is a little video clip

  1. Very nice, Heidi, yet again!

Now I would like so much to read about your INTERACTION with French people rather than simply witnessing the life of others. This request does not deny that this is a beautiful description of an extraordinary moment - thank you!
